The house at Snarøya was originally in fun style, but it needed a bad upgrade.

Initially, residents wanted to solve a hopeless garage situation, and Civil Architect Kristian Vårvik at Kvarts Arkitekter came to work.

The start of the garment was the beginning of a complete transformation process. The garage was built as an independent unit next to the residence.

Own Device

The stair between the access point and the garden binds the buildings.

On the garage roof was added a 90 sqm terrace with a footbridge over the stairs directly to the kitchen entrance.

– A revelation, the residents say. – The large terrace outside the kitchen is used from early spring to late summer. Here we cover long tables when we celebrate or have big dinner dinners.

Major Changes

Architect Kristian Vårvik and furniture and interior designer Lars Ernst Hol e saw the potential of the home as they were exploring. They knew from the first moment that they could do wonders here.

An architect and furniture designer can be a perfect combination.

The challenge was to give the function house warmth and distinctiveness, while keeping the architecture tight.

Funkistoalett Facade

The facade has been significantly changed.

The architect worked to customize the windows of the different uses of the home: The elongated windows of the dining room emit moderately with light, but give a view to the garden when the family bounces around the dinner table.

Color Language

Exterior has the housing cedar panel in different widths over gray concrete wall.

Garage and front door are yellow contrasts.

From the patio on the garage roof, the footbridge leads into a large open space. Here the living room, dining room and kitchen flows in one.

The seat bench is located in a small extension with rause corner windows just inside the kitchen door.

Large kitchen trays and undershirts are in dark gray high-gloss, while the hoods have a front turquoise green glass. Both the benches and kitchen island have worktops in maintenance-free Corian.

Fireplace Parts

The fireplace is free in the room, a grip that makes the room bigger. The gray, untreated surface of the masonry contributes to a rough interaction with the white walls. The dining room is located by the fireplace, a short way to the kitchen island.

Solid Oak

To create a warmer atmosphere in the rooms, the specially designed furniture designer’s dining table, desk, wardrobes and bathroom fixtures.

The staircase was moved, and the furniture designer designed a staircase in oiled solid oak. It opens a direct connection between the kitchen zone upstairs and the hall downstairs.

Dream home

Although the conversion was extensive, residents did not regret a second.

– The house works excellent. It is convenient and created for inclusive dinner parties with friends and family. We have got a home with thoughtful and surprising details, like the walkway. The house is nice to look at and good to use.
