Cottage life

It is a witness of a delicious long lived cottage life that we meet in the woods edge by the water Hajeren in the hills between Numedalslågen and Eikern.

A sunbathing dart game, a worn ax, roasted veins, beautiful tin fats and pickpockets of canned cans. A small treasure chest filled with history and memories. And that was precisely what made Hanne K. Foshaugen bought the cottage in the summer of 1999, partly furnished and partially unseen.

Simple Retro cottage

Getting to the red painted cottage in the woods is almost like meeting an old friend, who in one way has always been there. It could have been a paradise for nostalgic, flea market enthusiasts and urban hipsters with interest in retrievers. But exactly Hanne is not particularly concerned about it.

– I know that the cottage seems like retro, but I do not do this for fun. We just wanted to preserve the story and the cottage the way it was. We are not distinctly nostalgic either. For example, it looks completely different at home. But that’s what we associate with childhood, and that’s the way we’ve wanted our cottage life to be, “says Hanne til Hytteliv..

Two parts

The cottage has an original design. It has two parts with separate inputs. There was a local man in the village that built the first part in 1927, and in 1959 he built on his sneezing. The two parts baptized Hanne immediately for 1A (the newest) and 1B (the oldest). Both departments were characterized by the time they were built and furnished in. And they still do.

– As a child of the 1960s, we decided to preserve 1A the way it was. 1B reminded most of our grandparents, so it also got intact. We thought it was so nice. In some ways, time has stopped, something we also want to do. Stop a little bit. Think and just live at a leisurely pace.

Lovely Location

Memories: Lovely tin plates and coffee cups that were typical in the 1960s help to bring forth memories. Old, good coffee boxes spice up the habitable day, and the old pickles still work. Photo: Sveinung Bråthen

Well-preserved: As a child of the 1960s, the cottage owners decided to preserve 1A as it was. 1B mostly reminded of their grandparents, so it also got intact. Photo: Sveinung Bråthen

They cleaned and washed themselves in, painted a little here and there, and fetched some little things from the basement and the loft of their parents. It eventually showed up fish, homemade knives and a range of candy sugar.

– Hajern was dropping during the war, so it is assumed that the cottage has been used by Englishmen or opponents. It seems we are a little nice to think about.

By the way, the location is not something to say; a stone’s throw from the water, literally. As a recreation, there is a little walking and berry picking. And in the cottage book, it’s the cottage cheese most promises: Yatzyturnering with losing hat, knitting, reading and the good conversations.

Lots of guests

– There is nothing as urgent. It sums up our use. We are mostly kidding with small things; scraping, sparkling and paint. Replace any rotten planks if necessary. Everything at a pace we feel, says Hanne.

Simple style: Most things have been retained in the style it was. There is no double bed here. The original, self-built bunk beds get tablecloths. Photo: Sveinung Bråthen

Old and good: Aside from thorough washing, much has not been done at the cottage at the Hajeren. Here from the oldest part, built in 1927. Photo: Sveinung Bråthen

Nice space: It’s not hard to understand that the cottage owners relax on the covered terrace. Photo: Sveinung Bråthen

There is no power, no noise and very limited mobile coverage. The other part of the cottage has worked well: In 1A they immediately trampled into childhood and to the 1960s and 1970’s ornaments and textiles. The children, now 21 and 27, have had the oldest part, the grandmother, as their domain. Guests have been a lot of. In the cottage book, a guest summarizes the following description: “Can I stay close to this cottage when I grow up, I’m lucky. Colorful inside and something crazy on the outside ».

It’s not hard to understand what they mean.
