When checking in at Hotel Teatro, your stage will be. The interior is heavily inspired by the theater which was in the exact same place in the 19th century.
The exterior does not make much of the hotel, the simple and tight facade is covered in dark glass. But as you step into the reception, the theater experience begins.
The first thing that meets you is a poem engraved on the front doors, authored by Portuguese poet Almeida Garrett. The reception is designed as a ticket cover, the daylight is filtered through tinted curtains and a round wooden seat is decorated with scenes from famous plays.
Interior with dramaturgy
Portuguese designer Nini Andrade Silva is responsible for the interior, and she has been playing dramaturgy and special effects. The expression is inviting, warm and sumptuous, without tipping over in the melodramatic
The hotel’s color palette is burnt in dark and dark wood, golden golden details of brass and gold. Heavy curtains emphasize the old-fashioned theater feeling. At the lifts, the suitcases hang on the tight clothes racks equally. Although history is not in the modern walls of the building, there is no doubt that the designer wants you to believe it.
The theater theme plays in the background, but in the form of curtains that separate both the bathroom and the wardrobe, and this is almost like a personal stage. And as a guest, you are the one who has the registry.
In the middle of the butterfly
The location of the hotel is very attractive, it is centrally located, within easy walking distance of many of the city’s sights. Although, all of Porto is an attraction in itself. The city stands on the UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is a pleasure to wander through the narrow streets and admire the houses with their beautiful facades covered with tiles.
If the world is a scene, such as Blessed Shakespeare once wrote, Hotel Teatro and the city of Porto are not at all the worst place to be a player.
