FEIS OF PEIS: If the feeder detects that the wood stove produces a lot of soot, it should be arranged more frequent sweeping, says Morten Seljeskog, researcher at Sintef. Photo: Getty Images.

A sooted pipe draws poorly, produces a poor combustion and increases the risk of piping.

It’s the way it’s been fired that determines what the state of the pipe is in. Moisturizing wood and low-firing fumes give frowns. Beak is in itself flammable, and when lying on the inside of the pipe, this can ignite and become a flame if it fires.

Check every four years

The feces usually occur in the junctions between the fume pipe and the pipeline, and this is often where the pipeline starts. Beksot is the most combustible sauce type. It is a hard and glossy soot coating that is formed by incomplete combustion in the fireplace. Raw fuel, low draft or too little access to fresh air are the common reasons for bone formation.

The frequency of the feast varies from municipality to municipality, but mostly the feast is at minimum minimum every four years. Then check the fire safety and check whether the chimney needs sweeping. If you have not been sweeping the chimney for the last four years, this is something you should definitely make sure.

A fireplace and a pipe means you should be aware of fire safety.

In general, it’s about being alert to changes in the pipe, and this is especially important with regard to old brick paints.

Pipe fire and moist wood

However, if you have a pipeline between these controls, it’s important that the sweepstakes visit an additional visit.

Another reason to take an extra check is whether you know you’ve got too damp wood.

– If you have fired too wet wood, you may want to sweep on a visit. When wet, sore and can cause a fire, Merethe Slensvik Halvorsrød, chairman of Norwegian heat, announces.

Mostly, the wood you get dry enough, but if you’re unsure, check this by knocking two logs against each other. If there is a “hollow” sound, the wood is dry enough.

– In doubt, you can go to purchasing a moisture meter. This gives you a good deal of money in many construction stores. You insert two sticks into the wood and measure the moisture percentage. If the percentage is over 20, the wood is too damp, halves red.

The trick is to fire in a way that keeps the cubes last longer and gives more warmth.

Too much soot requires frequent sweeping

If you have had a fired fire or often fired with moist wood, Morten Seljeskog, a researcher at Sintef, recommends contacting the local fire department in order to arrange an appointment.

– Feel free to take the opportunity to have a chat with the celebrator and hear what services he can offer. If it is discovered that the stove and chimney combination produces a lot of soot, it should be arranged more frequent sweeping, Seljeskog suggests.

With the exception of some municipalities, sweeping and inspection of cottage pipes is not required by law. Therefore, someone chooses to do the job themselves.

Are you comfortable walking on the roof, you can do the job yourself.

Copper sulfate

The first few times you quit might be an attempt to put in a bag or two with copper sulphate. The copper sulphate reacts in the flames and forms a gas that binds chemically to the soot in the chimneys and makes it burn more efficiently and at a lower temperature.

– This is something you can repeat regularly depending on how much you fire. Some even recommend ironing the usual household salt on the kubs. The salt reacts with the water vapor from combustion and forms a weak acid that helps to dissolve soot and tar coating on internal parts. This should not be done too often as this acid speeds up decomposition and rust, notes Morten Seljeskog.

Such bags are specially designed for this purpose and are available in many grocery and hardware stores.

He emphasizes that none of these methods is a substitute for good old-fashioned sweeping, but can help you keep the chimney leakage at a relatively modest level throughout the heating season.
